Since 1849, the Minnesota Historical Society (MNHS) has preserved Minnesota’s past and has become one of the largest and most prestigious historical societies in the country. As part of their mission, they play a vital role in developing statewide educational resources. This includes the Northern Lights e-book, the state’s sixth grade social studies curriculum. When the e-book’s distribution platform was unexpectedly retired, MNHS needed to rapidly and seamlessly transition the widely used text for active users.
Disco helped MNHS vet new publication platforms and served as a consultant for the design team during the e-book transition. Updating the Northern Lights platform dramatically improved the user experience for existing users, helped with version control, and provided a standardized experience across multiple devices for students across the state. Additionally, the refresh allowed MNHS to expand to new markets and attract Android and Chromebook users.
Expertise in multi-platform development, media distribution, and user experience design helped establish Disco as a trusted partner, which led to future collaborations with MNHS.
